  • On August 10, 1784 artist, Allan Ramsay Jnr died. Son of the poet Allan Ramsay Snr, he was a leading portrait painter of his day. Some of his subjects included King George III, historian Edward Gibbon, philosopher David Hume and Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald.
